Gym: what the camera looks for

Lifting, cardio, bodyweight work. The check asks whether you are working out.

What the camera looks for

When your gym spot-check fires, the in-app prompt reads "Show us the workout". The vision model then judges whether your three-photo burst shows the activity. In general it looks for:

  • A person exercising or clearly set up to, such as with weights, a bar, a machine or a mat.
  • Enough of your body and equipment in frame to read the movement.
  • A setting that looks like a place people work out, at a gym or at home.

Tips for a clean check

  • Prop the phone or ask a friend, so your whole movement is in frame, not only your face.
  • Avoid heavy backlight such as a bright window behind you.
  • Mid-rep frames are good. Three frames a fraction of a second apart can show real movement.
  • Mind other people. Frame yourself, and remember a few frames are sent for a check and never stored.

If a check fails

A selfie in a gym mirror with no equipment or movement may not read as a workout. Step back and show the activity when you re-capture. Streako always offers one re-capture before a check fails, and verification is tuned to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Honest status

This is a listed activity, and listed activities ship only if they pass our benchmark on real photo bursts, including bad light and awkward angles. Any activity with too many wrongly rejected checks is cut. Accuracy figures will be published only after the benchmark is complete, so we are not quoting any here.
